Lewis, Rita J.

Attorney Reta Lewis is vice president and counselor to U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. She is the officer spearheading the Chamber's effort to focus on developing strategic relationships and building ties to minority and women owned businesses. She is a leader in the Democratic Leadership Council and also assists in the U.S. Chamber's congressional efforts with New Democrats. Prior to joining the U.S. Chamber, Ms. Lewis was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Greenberg Traurig. She has more that 20 years of extensive political and government affairs experience. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, she was Of Counsel with Arter & Hadden. Attorney Lewis also served in the Clinton Administration as Special Assistant to the President of the United States in the office of Political Affairs. She served as the political liaison to the Departments of Commerce, Transportation, Education, and Housing and Urban Development. Prior to her work at the White House, Ms. Lewis also has held positions as Legislative Assistant to the House Subcommittees on Census and Population and on Elementary, Secondary and Vocational Education. In 1990 she served as the National Trip Director of the Nelson Mandela U.S.A. Tour. She also served as the Chief of Staff for the District of Columbia Public Works Department where she gained vast experience in municipal finance, public works and administrative law. A graduate of Emory University School of Law she is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and Georgia. Ms. Lewis is a member of the Board of the National Chamber Foundation of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the College Democrats of America, and a member of the Women's Information Network Advisory Council, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
