Spraggins, Marianne

Marianne C. Spraggins is the president and chief executive officer of ALIC Investment Advisors (ALICIA), an asset-management company of the Atlanta Life Financial Group. No stranger to the investment industry, this 20-year veteran was the first African-American woman to become a managing director on Wall Street. She has served as senior managing director for Smith, Whiley and Co., chair and CEO of W.R. Lazard and Co., and managing director in the municipal division of Smith Barney Shearson. Along with developing Wall Street savvy, Ms. Spraggins has been an associate professor of law at New York Law School. She has an L.L.M. degree from Harvard Law School and a J.D. from New York Law School. She is a member of the Democratic National Committee. A native New Yorker, she has served on a variety of boards and commissions, including the New York City Economic Development Corp., New York Law School, the Apollo Theater Foundation and former Governor Cuomo’s Task Force on Consumer and Mortgage Banking. She currently serves on the boards of directors for Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Count-Me-In.org, the only on-line microlending organization for women. Ms. Spraggins is a frequent speaker on the topics of minority entrepreneurship, domestic emerging markets, small business and capital accessibility.
