Moore, Minyon

Minyon Moore is considered one of Washington's top strategic thinkers. She currently heads the state and local affairs practice of the Dewey Square Group, a Washington, D.C. based public affairs firm. Before joining Dewey Square Group she served as the chief operating officer of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and was directly responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the party’s activities, with an annual operating budget of $60 million. Prior to that appointment, during the Clinton administration, Minyon Moore served as assistant to the President of the United States and as Director of White House Political Affairs. In this capacity, she was the principal political adviser to the President, Vice-President and the First Lady, with primary responsibility for planning and directing the political activities of the President. She began her White House career in 1997 as the administration’s principal intermediary to nongovernmental organizations and constituencies, which include business, labor, women, seniors, gays, lesbians, African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans and communities of faith. Directing a 20-person staff, she was responsible for developing and implementing strategies that would cultivate and maintain support for Presidential initiatives. Before joining the Clinton administration, she was the national political director for the DNC during the 1996 election cycle. In 1988 Ms. Moore was Reverend Jesse Jackson’s national deputy field director and at the DNC National Convention she served as convention coordinator for the Jackson campaign. Ms. Moore was also special assistant to Jackson’s convention manager, the late Ronald H. Brown. During the 1988 general election, she was national deputy field director for then Governor Michael Dukakis.
