Hall, Laura
The Honorable Laura Hall is the state representative for District 19 in the Alabama House of Representatives. She has represented her constituency in the Alabama legislature since 1993. She became the first Black woman to represent her district in a special election that she won with 86 percent of the vote. She has also served as chairwoman of the Governor’s Commission on AIDS. She has served on major committees in the Alabama legislature and is currently working on the Government Finance and Appropriations Committee and the Judiciary Committee. She is also active in the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) and the National Organization of Black Elected Women (NOBEL Women). Representative Hall’s staunch support of the underserved and underprivileged has earned much respect from the citizens of Alabama, as evidenced by the many Legislator of the Year Awards she has received from groups that advocate for women, health and education issues. Laura Hall has been a professional teacher for more than 25 years. She now serves as assistant to the president for Institutional Effectiveness and Special Projects at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama. She has been a science teacher in elementary and high schools throughout her teaching career and is the recipient of numerous awards for her outstanding tenure as an educator. Well respected by her colleagues, she served as president of the Huntsville Education Association in Huntsville, Alabama.
