Palmer, Celestine
Celestine Palmer is one of the original founders and current chairwoman of the Los Angeles African American Women Political Action Committee (LAAAWPAC). She has been recognized as having planted the seed that has grown into Women Building For The Future/The Future PAC. Ms. Palmer has had a diverse and interesting professional career. With her degree in elementary education she worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District as a Hearing Officer and Student Discipline Counselor. Her extensive travels throughout the world led to other endeavors including concert promotion for Kool & The Gang and promotion of a national program for the band entitled "It's Kool To Stay In School" sponsored by Coca-Cola Company. She was the owner of Celestial Enterprises Global Trading, an import/export business dealing in African fine arts and fabrics. Her love of children, especially for those in need, led her to a position as Director of Ability First, administering a program servicing physically and mentally challenged children. At present, she is working with TRISTAR as a life insurance agent and retirement planning specialist. She is an appointee of Governor Gray Davis to the California Seismic Safety Commission, a very important commission in the "earthquake capital" of the United States. Politically, Ms. Palmer is a stalwart in California Democratic Party politics. She is a delegate to the California Democratic Party, served as a member of the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee for ten years, was a delegate to three Democratic National Conventions, and served as chair of the California Democratic Party's Women's Caucus. Ms. Palmer and the Los Angeles African American Women Political Action Committee have been lauded by Congresswoman Diane Watson as the major force behind her election to the House of Representatives.
