Washington, A. Shuanise

A. Shuanise Washington is vice-president, government affairs policy and outreach for Altria Group, Inc., formerly Philip Morris USA. Ms. Washington has had a distinguished 15-year career with Philip Morris USA, having moved through the ranks of sales representative to area, district and regional sales management to Philip Morris USA Corporate Affairs, and finally to her present position. In the corporate affairs area she was director of trade and business affairs. She was then promoted to director, Washington Relations, where she was responsible for outreach to Capitol Hill caucuses. Her success garnered her another promotion to vice-president of external affairs, Philip Morris Management Corp., where she was responsible for managing the company’s community-relations activities throughout the United States. In her present position as vice-president for government affairs policy and outreach, she heads a department that serves as the liaison between federal and state government affairs and the company’s food and tobacco businesses, as well as SABMiller. She provides legislative and regulatory support services and resources, manages the corporation’s political action committee and manages the companies’ strategic external relationships with business organizations, trade associations and other public-policy organizations that represent key stakeholders and constituencies.
