Washington, DC -- Women Building for the Future (The Future PAC) today announced its support for Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields in her run for Mayor of New York City.

Virginia Fields' experience on the City Council and as Manhattan Borough President have prepared her to work hard for New Yorkers as their mayor. In 1989, C. Virginia Fields became the first African-American woman elected to the City Council from Manhattan, where she served two four-year terms. On the City Council, she was successful in creating affordable housing, revitalizing schools, fostering economic growth, increasing public safety and preserving programs for young people and seniors. In 1997, Fields was elected Manhattan Borough President, chief executive for the 1.5 million residents of Manhattan.
Founded in 2002, The Future PAC is the first national political action committee developed by African-American women to support progressive African-American women candidates at the federal, state, and local levels by creating a network of support and funding. Since its inception, Future PAC has made history, contributing to over a dozen African-American women candidates.
